A short story of ACCELERATE
2011
The inception of ACCELERATE begins with the launch of the ENCCA (European Network for Cancer research in Children and Adolescents) project, part of the 7th EU Framework Programme
2013
A second BDA/CDDF workshop examined paediatric cancer drug development progress, or more specifically lack thereof, and sought input from all stakeholders on the means to enact needed changes. The need to create a Paediatric Oncology Platform to enable all stakeholders to work together to improve current implementation of the Regulation was made clear.
2015
The ACCELERATE publication of Creating a unique multi-stakeholder paediatric oncology platform to improve drug development for children and adolescents with cancer highlights the limited progress had been made in paediatric oncology drug development seven years after the launch of the European Paediatric Medicines Regulation
2016
The first ACCELERATE Steering Committee is held

The ACCELERATE publication of Implementation of Mechanism of Action (MoA) biology-driven early drug development for children with cancer recommends the evaluation in early phase clinical trials of potentially effective drugs where the MoA is known and thought to be relevant to paediatric malignancies
2017
The first two Paediatric Strategy Forums are held. Focus: ALK inhibition and Mature B-Cell in paediatric malignancies
2018
ACCELERATE is established as an International multi-stakeholder Platform

The third Paediatric Strategy Forum is held. Focus: Medicinal product development of Checkpoint Inhibitors for use in combination therapy in paediatric patients
2019
ACCELERATE is officially established as a non-profit organization based in Belgium

The fourth Paediatric Strategy Forum is held. Focus: Medicinal product development for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in children and adolescents
2020
The fifth Paediatric Strategy Forum is held, first time in the US. Focus: Medicinal product development of Epigenetic Modifiers in children and adolescents
2021
The first two ACCELERATE educational webinars are organized. All material is available on this website

The sixth, seventh and eighth Paediatric Strategy Forums are held virtually. Focus: ALK inhibition (2nd), Medicinal product development of CAR-T cells in children and adolescents and mTK Inhibitors in Bone Sarcomas
