ACCELERATE is searching for a Scientific Programme Coordinator to support the delivery and implementation of its scientific strategy and workplan. This is a unique opportunity to join an international, multi-stakeholder non-profit organisation working to improve outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer by accelerating the development of innovative anticancer medicines.
ACCELERATE is an international multi-stakeholder non-profit organisation. Its mission is to mobilize the global stakeholder community to collectively identify challenges in paediatric cancer drug development and work collaboratively to drive accountable, effective, and sustainable solutions. The ultimate goal is improvement in outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer. Paediatric cancer patients and parents, academic paediatric oncologists and haematologists, researchers, representatives from biopharma companies, and regulatory networks authorities are all equal members of ACCELERATE.
Location and working hours: Remote / home office. Full time position (80-100%). Regular interaction with European and international stakeholders. Availability to work flexible hours with the international (Europe/North America) committees (occasionally until 7 pm CET). Some travel required: annual conference (Europe) and 2 to 4 yearly in-person meetings (Europe and North America).
Contract type: Employee contract (Belgium) or freelance consultancy (outside Belgium), depending on location.
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Role purpose: The Scientific Programme Coordinator supports the delivery and implementation of ACCELERATE’s Scientific Strategy, coordinating scientific activities and projects. These include multi-stakeholder Paediatric Strategy Forums, Workshops, Working Groups and stakeholder engagement. The role ensures that multi‑stakeholder working groups operate effectively, that scientific inputs are translated into clear outputs, and that activities are delivered smoothly in close collaboration with the Scientific Committee Chair and Operations Manager.
This is a hybrid coordination role, combining scientific literacy with strong organisational and facilitation skills.
Key responsibilities
1. Scientific meeting programmes (Paediatric Strategy Forums, Annual Conference, workshops) and working group coordination
- Coordinate the content of conferences, forums, workshops and meetings together with the Scientific Committee, programme committees and working groups
- Coordinate multiple scientific and policy‑focused programme committees and working groups (planning calls, agendas, background materials, minutes and action tracking).
- Support committee and working group chairs and scientific leads by maintaining momentum between meetings and ensuring timely delivery of outputs.
- Act as the central point of contact for committee and working group members across academia, clinical networks, industry, regulators and patient organisations.
2. Scientific content support
- Work closely with the Scientific Committee Chair and the Scientific Committee on all aspects of the work plan
- Translate complex scientific discussions into clear, structured written outputs suitable for diverse audiences.
3. Stakeholder engagement support
- Support the implementation of ACCELERATE’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan, by actively and professionally engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, regulators, industry representatives and patient advocates.
- Contribute to building and maintaining trusted, long‑term relationships across the ACCELERATE network.
4. Programme and operational support
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to align working group activity with broader organisational planning.
- Support coordination of workshops, meetings and forums (scientific preparation, logistics coordination, follow‑up).
- Coordinate other scientific and workplan projects.
- Support impact reports and research projects.
- Ensure good documentation, version control and tracking of deliverables.
- Coordinate ACCELERATE working group communications.
5. Scientific grant opportunity scouting and project management
- Monitor and identify relevant grant opportunities aligned with ACCELERATE’s scientific strategy, project priorities and partnership objectives.
- Coordinate and manage grant applications, including gathering input from contributors, drafting and compiling submission materials, and tracking timelines and requirements.
- Support the management of funded grant projects, including coordination of deliverables, tracking deadlines, progress tracking, partner contributions and reporting obligations.
Profile of the ideal candidate
Background
- Previous experience in scientific project management.
- Demonstrated exposure to paediatric oncology, clinical research, drug development or regulatory science would be an asset.
Core skills
- Strong ability to understand and synthesise scientific and clinical information.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting summaries, reports or briefing materials.
- Proven experience coordinating groups, projects or committees with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence working with senior experts while remaining facilitative and neutral.
- Fluency in spoken and written English (other European languages are an asset).
